5 Effective Ways to Put Anger under Control On April 1, 1984, the world was stunned when soul legend and Motown records artist Marvin Gaye was shot by no other person but his own father, Marvin Gay Sr.

He was rushed to California hospital medical center where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Marvin Gaye was killed the day before his 45th birthday. Till his father died on 10 October 1998, he regretted his action greatly! In fact, he lived with the pain for the rest of his life.

If only he had brought his temper under control at that moment, of course, things would have been different. He deprived us of one of the greatest composers and singers of all time.

Many homes are broken today because of the little demon called anger. Innumerable numbers of people are in jail and even in the grave because of it. Many have lost their marriage/relationship and everything because of this emotion.

If you are the type that gets angry easily or it takes a community to calm you down when you are angry, you have a serious problem. In fact, you must do something about it before it does something to you.

During a sentencing hearing, Marvin Gaye Sr. tearfully told the court, “If I could bring him back, I would. I’m really sorry for everything that happened. I loved him. I wish he could step through this door right now. I am really paying the price now!”

ANGER is one of the emotions expressed by humans. The fact is there is nothing wrong in getting angry; what everything is wrong with is unable to control it. If you know you cannot fly an airplane don’t kick start it.

If you know you cannot control this emotion you must train yourself not to get angry. Or better still; learn how to put it under control. Because anger can reduce you to a beast faster than you thought possible.

In fact, it brings out the beast in us and makes us do things we spend the rest of our lives regretting. I wrote this article to help you put this emotion under control when it rises. Do you get angry easily? If yes, then this article is a must read for you.

1. Take a few breaths

In order not to spend the rest of your life regretting your actions like Gaye’s father, try to take a few deep breaths the moment your vain begins to swell.

Yes, taking a few deep breaths when we are angry relieves us of the emotion and helps us feel better. How it works! One of the well-known structures of our brain is called the amygdala.

The amygdala handles emotion; while the prefrontal cortex of our brain which is located just behind our forehead is mandated to keep our emotion in check.

Therefore, you can control your anger by simply helping your prefrontal cortex get the upper hand over your amygdala. How? By simply applying a relaxation technique such as taking a few deep breaths!

When we get angry, our heart rate accelerates, our breathing rate increases, and our blood pressure rises. When the relaxation response is activated your heart rate slows down, breathing becomes slower and deeper, blood pressure drops or stabilizes, and muscles relax.

Taking a few deep breaths allows your heart rate to slow down, as well as correct any other physical reactions to the anger.

2. Practice meditation

One other way to help your prefrontal cortex get the upper hand over your amygdala is to practice meditation. Meditation is another relaxation technique that will help relieve you of this emotion.

In fact, a new study suggests that one session of meditation can help reduce your body’s response to anger. This study verifies the plurality of evidence that meditation, both short-term and long-term can help protect your bodies and minds from the harmful physical stress of anger.

Repeated, consistent practice of meditation enhances our ability to cope and sit with negative emotions such as anger without reacting.

3. Go for a cold glass of water

Another great way to put your temper under control in the middle of a heated argument is to go for a cold glass of water. Understand that no matter how angry you get the moment you gulp a cold glass of water, you will be able to put this emotion in check.

It works in two ways:

. It calms your nerves.

. The little time you use to disengage from the argument or quarrel is enough time for you to think and come to the realization that you are about to step on the path of madness.

4. Think of the consequence

One of the greatest thinker and philosopher of all time, Confucius advised us, “When anger rises, think of the consequences.”

The fact is it is difficult to think clearly when we are angry. What to do While in the middle of a heated argument, imagine a siren blaring. In fact, this is among the best ways to get rid of this emotion.

When you imagine it as your veins start to swell, the next thing that will come to your mind is the police. Of course, you wouldn’t like these people to come after you. Or do you?

This simple secret will help you think of the consequences of the action you are about to take and dissuade you from the path of madness.

5. Know the purpose you are on earth

The fact is if you know the purpose you are on earth, you won’t allow anything stands between you and that purpose. In fact, No matter how angry you get, it bends your thought in a positive direction because it has overshadowed everything in your life and taken a center stage in your mind.

Because it has become your life wire and the driving force of your life, it compels you to quickly evaluate the step you are about to take the moment you get angry. One great way to manage anger is to discover that which you are called upon to do.

A life without purpose is a meaningless life. Like other emotions, anger is experienced in our bodies as well as in our minds. Therefore, it is wise to fill the mind with positive thoughts.

According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, “For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind.”

1 Decide to stop

The first step to take in starting or stopping anything in life is a decision. It is exceedingly improbable to start or stop anything in life without making a decision. In fact, the very first step I took in the cutting of the habit of smoking was telling myself, “I don’t wanna do this anymore.”

Saying it does not do the magic, it is meaning it with the whole of your being that does it. In the words of a great mind, “Decision is a sharp knife that cut clean and straight.”

Former president of Cuban Fidel Castrol after close to 40 to 45 years of smoking quit smoking at age 59 and never smoked again until his lifespan ran out in death. This was a man who was hardly ever seen nor photographed without one.

When asked how he did it he said, “I decided to stop. Nobody made me.” You can see the power of decision.

2. Motivate yourself to stop

After reaching a decision to quit for good, the second step I took was to motivate myself. The fact is your decision to quit is as useless as a dog shit if you don’t motivate yourself to stop.

Motivation was what helped my decision hold, it is what will make your decision to stand. What I did was simple! I started hanging out with people who quitted a long time ago. This helped me in no small measure to develop the power I used to say no to cigarettes.

I discovered I was able to fight the urge better with the inspiration I was getting from my new friends. Whenever the urge comes, I counter it by quickly casting my mind back to my new friends and saying to myself, “If they can do it, why can’t I?”

3. Avoid a person who smokes until you conquer the urge completely

It is unwise to keep associating with a person who smokes when you are trying to quit smoking. The moment a smoker perceives a cigarettes smoke, he can go at any length just to get a stick of cigarettes.

In fact, secondhand smoke was one of the biggest storms that confronted me while I was trying to quit smoking. The moment I perceive it, I find myself running like a mad dog to get myself a stick of cigarette.

I started recording huge success when I stopped avoiding friends and associates who smoke. No matter how close a person is to you you have no choice but to start avoiding him as if he is a leper before you completely conquer the urge. That is if you really want to quit smoking.

The reason is that setting your eyes on a cigarettes stick or perceiving the smoke can make you give up on quitting faster than you thought possible.

I discovered that my smoking rate reduced drastically when I stopped going to places where there smoke cigarettes and avoiding people who smoke. In fact, this is one of the best ways to stop smoking.

If you find it hard to avoid such friends asking yourself this simple question and pondering on it the moment you wake up in the morning can help you out, “Between my friends and my health wish one is more important to me?”

4. Reduce drastically your alcohol intake

If you can avoid those things that trigger the urge you will definitely win the war. Reducing drastically my intake of alcohol was indeed my cornerstone of hit.

Even if you don’t feel like smoking the moment you start consuming alcohol the urge to smoke comes with the speed of light. Alcohol and tobacco are like a husband and a wife if you give up on one the other may abandon you.

So long as you keep drinking excessively consider cigarettes your best friend.

5. Think of your loved ones

The manufactures of cigarettes made it abundantly clear that what you are buying from them is what will cut short your life. In fact, this is boldly written in every cigarettes pack.

Giving up smoking is easy when you come to the realization that being a smoker makes you a wicked and a selfish person. It was after I came to this realization that I decided to give it up for good.

Yes, not until I realized that I was wicked and selfish because I only cared about pleasuring myself and care not about how my loved ones will feel should anything happens to me that I finally gave it up.

In my teenage years one of the things my parents never stop warning me to keep away from was marijuana; a cannabis plant that originated from central Asia and Indian subcontinent used for medical and recreational purposes.

In fact, my parents made it appear as a viper snake whose bit kills faster than a bullet kills. Because of the picture painted on my young mind, I began to have a poor opinion of anyone taking it. I even consider such a person a criminal.

But as I grew older and began to see people I held in high esteem, people I looked up to in my environment smoking this illicit drug popularly called weed on the street, I started questioning everything my parents said concerning it.

I didn’t know some of my friends were already taking it until I decided to try it to see if it bit. In fact, the first time I took it, oh my God I thought the sun was about to fall on my head.

As I was about to take to my hills, it appears to me the ground was opening and my skin about to pull out of my body, I stood like a statue feeling sorry for myself! Next, I screamed out loudly and held my friends begging them to save me from the calamity that confronted me; can you imagine the rubbish!

My friends rolled with laughter! I thought they had gone mad because I could not see any reason why they were laughing when the world was about to come to an end. In short, the impression marijuana made on me that day made me swears never to take it ever again in my life.

It is not in my nature to say things that throw people on the floor rolling with laughter. If there is anything I dislike in this world, it is acting in a manner that creates room for people to question my sanity and have a poor opinion of me.

Keeping to that promise won’t have been a problem, had my friends saw the devil I saw in it. Unfortunately, they saw nothing wrong in it this prolonged my business with Mr. Marijuana.

It is known that not everyone who uses cannabis is affected adversely in the same way; there is a number of ways marijuana affects the brain and body, and it can vary from person to person.

Unfortunately, experts have not been able to prove why some people are more susceptible to its negative effects. Factors such as genes to personality traits may be adduced for this.

My friends made me take it again and again until I became well aware I was compromising my health and altering my ability to think properly. My parents could not have been more right, it bit! I decided to stop it for my own good and for the good of all.

I try talking my friends to give it up, but they gave me many reasons why they will not think of anything like that let alone give it up. Listed below are some of the reasons:

. Relieve them of stress and pain

. Increases their appetite

. Help them long last in bed

. Help them reason better

. Removes their mind from their worries

. Takes them to the abject world

The reasons these guys gave me will make a book if I decide to state them. Of course, I know there is beauty in everything. A well-read friend of mine once told me that if we scratch a little deeper we will see light in the devil.

I do not question his leniency; I do not doubt the logic of his reasoning. But I just have the hunch that the devil is too dark that is why it is impossible for people to see the good in him if there is any.

I stopped one day to ask myself this question, “If marijuana is any good, then why are people punished for selling, holding and using it in most countries of the world? I was still pondering on this question when Uruguay legalized it. “I must be dreaming” I said to myself.

Before I realized I was not, Canada on October 18, 2018, legalized marijuana for medical and recreational use. Before I could finish saying “What” Mexico’s Supreme Court also ruled that marijuana prohibition is unconstitutional paving the way for the country’s new leader, to follow Canada’s lead.

I was still trying to believe my ears when marijuana legalization initiatives swept the United States last year. Before I knew it, President Donald Trump signed the bipartisan farm bill into law in December of last year [2018] which legalized hemp.

A recent poll by the Pew Research center found that 62% of American, including 74% of millennials, said they supported legalizing marijuana.

For many years now, the adherent of the Rastafarian faith has been known for using marijuana for spiritual purposes. In fact, they claim it aids them in meditating!

One of the disciples of Rastafarianism, reggae legend Bob Nester Marley so praise and consumes this plant in his lifetime that he was buried with it.

This was Marley’s prophesy about marijuana, “Herb is the healing of the nation, alcohol is the destruction,” Was Bob Nester Marley right? Is the world beginning to see what they failed to see in it? Is there something good in it?

In fact, as more countries legalized marijuana, questions about the drug are on the rise. Cannabis popularly known as weed on the street is believed to be the most widely used illicit drug in the world.

In 2016, 51% of people in the United States had ever used cannabis. About 12% had used it in the past year, and 7.3% had used it in the past month.

According to the 2014 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, there are around 22.2 million marijuana users in the United States. The countries with the highest use among adults as of 2018 are Zambia, the United States, Canada, and Nigeria.

This flowering plant that originated from Asia and Indian Subcontinent contains over 400 chemical compounds.

Its 4 major compounds are delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, [d-9-THC], CBD, d-8-THC, and cannabinol. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, [d-9-THC] is the primary ingredient in marijuana it is responsible for its psychoactive effect.

Marijuana can be used by smoking, vaporizing, or mix with food Marijuana: Good or bad? Marijuana has physiological and psychoactive effects when taken in any form.

Below are some of its immediate effects:

1. Create euphoria

[feeling of joy] Marijuana use raises dopamine [brain chemical or hormone that boosts our mood] level in animals; this explains why some users become addicted to the drug.

2. Decreases motivation

There is substantial evidence that long-term marijuana use can alter the brain’s reward system to increase negative emotions and decrease motivation. This explains why most people who use this illicit drug are poor.

As a student, marijuana makes it hard for you to study and pay attention in class. And as a self-employed or an employed individual, it makes you prone to making costly mistakes in your place of work.

Making it difficult, even dangerous to perform tasks such as driving a car

I used the word “may” at the beginning of this paragraph because it is not yet proven to help many of the medical conditions listed. However, it has shown great signs in treating them.

I know exactly what I am saying! Up till now, I am still beating myself for letting Sophia go! It is such a shame that even time could not wipe away the picture of this lady’s features from my memory! I still see her in my dreams! Can someone tell me sorry!!!

1. Reduce your sugar intake

Sugar can do many bad things to your body system and one of them is to shut down estrogen production. Estrogens are any of a group of steroid hormones which promote the development and maintenance of female characteristics of the body.
